MP-30 — FAQ

What is purpose of MP-30 build plate? Can’t we use any other build plates?

MP-30 is designed specifically for printing polyolefins such as PP, PE, HDPE, LDPE, and LLDPE. For these materials, MP-30 is the only build surface that works reliably. See : Polyolefins

If your current use focuses on materials typically available as filament (PLA, PETG, ABS), there is no immediate need for MP-30. In fact, many of these materials do not adhere to MP-30 at all.

MP-30 becomes necessary if you:

  • Plan to print PP / PE and related families

  • Plan to recycle general plastic waste such as shampoo bottles, plastic bags, plumbing pipes, or electronic housings

These materials are almost always polyolefins.

Some exceptions:

  • ABS and TPU (common in higher-quality housings) adhere well to standard PEI plates

  • Water bottles (PET) also print well on standard build surfaces

  • PVC should not be printed at all, as it emits toxic gases and can corrode metal components
