Safe Practice for Materium (MUST READ)

This article describes what you should and should not do when installing, operating, and maintaining Materium.
Users MUST READ this article.

Installation
– dont jumble wires inside, keep them outside. Why : heatsinks and barrels and silicone sock is HOT
– dont bend the heater wire like so. Why : that’s not just a metal wire, it contains brittle ceramic insulation inside
– dont leave anything powered when something doesnt work. Why : in case of reversed wire, leaving them and hoping time and retries will fix it, will instead make it worse. If something doesnt work, cut power immediately.
– dont touch AC wires or let it touch anything. AC will hurt or kill you.
– dont pull on any wire even just to slightly position it. especially thermistor wire. Replacement is costly.

– do keep power cutoff always ready when testing
– do test fans, heaters, and motor one by one (if printer is your own build)
– do keep wires away from the barrel and heatsink. The brackets are designed to have retainers to keep cables away from heat, except the SE variant where silicone tube is used instead.
– do

Operation
– dont heat above 320c
– dont disassemble screw from motor unless guided
– dont reuse old clogged nozzles unless cleaned completely

– do watch first layers
– do try to replicate issue to see if it is repeatable and can be fixed upon
– do make sure everything but the extruder is healthy, before reporting a suspected issue with the extruder

Maintenance
– dont touc barrel with bare hands
– dont pull on any cable, the loop is there for the extension of the wires (image)
– dont jumble or stuff the wires just to look neat, instead prioritize safety of the cables

– do make sure no cables touch the heatsink when reassembling back
– do make sure all screws are properly fastened
– do recalibration of offset after every barrel disassembly
– do clean at least the feed zone (image) before reassembly
– do follow (this guide) to clean barrel and screw
