Cleaning Screw and Barrel

To clean screw and barrel, you must disassemble properly

this procedure requires concentration and gloves that can resist heat, or the Barrel Tool (See : Barrel Tool)

  1. make sure the there is wire runout
  2. unscrew and set aside all 8 side screws on both sashes
  3. tilt sash backward
  4. position build plate +-7cm away from nozzle
  5. no need to take off the silicone
  6. wear heat resisting gloves
  7. unscrew 4 barrel screws
  8. hold the barrel while heating up to 200c, most polymers let go at this temp
  9. (READ COMPLETELY) let barrel slide down due to melt or pull it downward slowly, do not yank, protect the wire from being snapped due to pulling
  10. once off, lay barrel on its side on the build plate or a protected surface of your choice
  11. do not let the barrel hang, once again to protect the wires
  12. prepare straight tweezers and nippers
  13. SCREW MUST BE CLEANED FIRST WHILE ITS STIL HAS HEAT
  14. DO NOT TAKE SCREW OFF THE MOTOR. CLEAN IT FROM THERE.
  15. Screw cleaning : utmost gentleness is not necessary, the screw is very hard and scratches will not do anything much to performance
  16. Do it in a windoww of 5-10minutes max. cold screw bites deeply with melt ribbon
  17. continue to barrel
  18. barrel cleaning : bring temp down to 100c-140c if not already, and hold it there
  19. the melt will gradually turn soft but still pullable with tweezers, do it deep
  20. clean barrel up to the sides and ends where nozzle is

THen to proper assembly:

  1. put one screw on one barrel hole
  2. heat barrel up 200c
  3. one hand holds the barrel
  4. one hand hold the screw with a hex key
  5. insert the barrel immediately
  6. immediately screw in the screw to hold barrel in place, preventing it from sliding down and falling)
  7. put other three screws (this is the most awkward part), can do it cold too
  8. heat barrel up to 200c
  9. fasten the screws
  10. tilt sash back
  11. screw the initial 8 screws tightly, not so tight to strip the heads
  12. cool everything down
  13. done
